Georgia: Zoo animals on the loose after flash floods hit Tbilisi
June 15 , 2015
Zoo animals including tigers, bears, and wolves are on the loose in Tbilisi after the Georgian capital was struck by heavy floods that have killed at least 12 people.
A hippopotamus was brought under control, but many animals have either been killed or remain unaccounted for.
The flash floods followed heavy rain that swelled the Vere river. The zoo was directly in the way of the flood waters.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has urged people to stay indoors as the search for the missing animals continues.
