Gas explosions kill 24 in Taiwan

  • The streets of Taiwan’s second largest city were ripped open by multiple gas explosions that killed at least 24 people. More than 270 people have been injured, according to reports.

The series of explosions in Kaohsiung, a port city of 2.8 million people, sent concrete flying into the air and turned stretches of road into rubble.

Petrochemical plants run underground pipelines in Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second largest city. Initial reports indicate that leaking propene gas may have caused the fire and blasts.
