Fresh air-drops of supplies, raids by US in Iraq

  • The United States has air-dropped more food and water into the mountains surrounding Sinjar town to help thousands of stranded Iraqis belonging to minority groups who are hiding from Islamist militants.

One C-17 and two C-130 cargo aircraft were involved in the air-drop, the Pentagon said in a statement.

The air-drop comes amid further US air strikes against Isis in a bid to stop the Sunni militant group from seizing Irbil, a Kurdish-controlled city where American citizens and staff are also present.
