French regional polls: National Front seeks to consolidate gains in second round
December 13 , 2015
France’s National Front (FN) is seeking to consolidate gains in the second round of the country’s regional elections.
Though Marine Le Pen’s party is leading in six of 13 regions, opinion polls suggest that the centre-right Republicans have gained ground from a week ago.
FN, whose strong anti-immigration stance has found resonance with a section of French voters, took 27.73% of the vote in the first round, while Nicolas Sarkozy’s Republicans won 26.65%. President Francois Hollande’s Socialists got 23.12% of the vote.
