French Police Officer who Swapped Places with a Hostage during Supermarket Siege Dies

  • French police officer Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame, who swapped places with a female hostage during French Super U supermarket siege in France’s southern city of Trèbes, has reportedly died on Friday night. While announcing the police officer’s death on Saturday, Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the country “will never forget his heroism, his bravery, his sacrifice”. Collomb also said the gunman (who killed 4 people during the siege) is 26 year old Redouane Lakdim, who was earlier known for committing drug and other minor offenses. Police has also detained a woman, who reportedly was "very close" to the gunman and also “shared his life”.
