French PM Vows to Restore National Unity amid Yellow Vest Protests
December 9 , 2018
Violence broke out as Yellow Vest protests continued in France for the 4th consecutive weekend. After the latest round of violent protests, Prime Minister of France Édouard Philippe has vowed to restore national unity. While around 125,000 people participated in the protest, nearly 90,000 police officers were deployed by the administration. Reports say over 1,700 people have been arrested by the French police as “yellow vest” demonstrators protested against increasing the cost of living and increasing fuel taxes. Many protesters also called for stepping down of French President Emmanuel Macron. Prime Minister Philippe said his government wants to rebuild national unity by pursuing “dialogue, through work, and by coming together.” French President Macron is expected to “put forward measures to foster this dialogue” soon.
