Guatemala’s former ruler Efrain Rios Montt has been found mentally not capable of standing for trial.
Montt, a former general who ruled for a brief period in the 80s, faces charges including genocide and war crimes committed during the country’s brutal civil war.
However, according to doctors, he is unable to understand the charges against him.
He faced charges of ordering the murder of farmers and Mayan Indians, in two separate trials. The doctors’ report will impact both trials.
