Former Brazilian President Lula Ordered to Turn Himself in

  • The former Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been ordered by a Brazilian judge to turn himself in and begin to serve his sentence of 12 years. The judge has also declared that the special cell has been prepared in advance where he would be kept separated from the rest of the prisoners. Lula has been charged in the case of bribery and his plea to stay free during the period he appeals against his conviction was rejected by the Supreme Court. In his defense, Lula stated that the charges were politically motivated and were a way to remove him from the presidential race. According to the surveys, he is a preferred candidate.
