Florida Bridge Collapse Kills 6 People, Victim's Uncle Blasts at Authorities

  • A newly installed pedestrian bridge in Miami (at Florida International University) collapsed on Thursday, killing 6 people. 4 victims have been identified yet. While three people (Rolando Fraga Hernandez, Oswald Gonzalez and Alberto Arias) died on the spot, the fourth victim (Navarro Brown) died at a hospital. An early Saturday statement from the university said the engineering company (Figg Bridge Engineers) constructing the bridge discussed about a crack on the structure in a meeting hours before the collapse. The technical presentation of the engineering company concluded, as the university statement, the reported crack didn’t compromise “structural integrity of the bridge” and “there were no safety concerns”. Victim Alexa Duran’s uncle called the entire incident “complete incompetence” and “colossal failure”.
