Flight MH370: Australian PM hints at scaling back search operation

  • Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has indirectly suggested that the search operation for Malaysia airlines flight MH370 could be scaled back.

He said that he hoped the “search would succeed”, but he could not promise “that the search will go on at this intensity forever”. Warren Truss, the country's deputy prime minister, had earlier made similar remarks.

The Malaysia Airlines flight, carrying 239 people, disappeared a year ago while going from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
