Final Hong Kong protest site cleared by police

  • The last remaining protest site in Hong Kong has been cleared by the police. Several pro-democracy activists were arrested in the process.

Protesters had occupied the center of the Causeway Bay shopping district for over two months.

Hong Kong’s leader CY Leung said the latest clearance marked an end of “illegal occupation activities".

The largest protest area, in Admiralty, was cleared by authorities last week.

Protesters have been demanding completely free polls to elect the city’s chief executive, something Beijing has not agreed to.
