Fidel Castro's son commits suicide after battling depression

  • The oldest son of Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro killed himself after taking months of treatment for battling depression. He was 68 years old. Fidel Ángel Castro Díaz-Balart was a nuclear physicist, trained by the former Soviet Union. He was taking treatment from a group of doctors as an outpatient for several months because he was suffering from deep depression. He served as Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba. Castro was also a scientific adviser to the Cuban Council of State.
