Ferry service between Florida and Cuba approved by US

  • Ferries could soon run between Cuba and Florida for the first time in over five decades.

Services had stopped after the US imposed an embargo on Cuba in 1960 .

The Obama administration has now given the go-ahead to new services. The move comes after diplomatic ties between the two estranged nations were restored in December.

United Americas Shipping Services, which is based in Miami, called the decision a “great step forward”, indicating that the services could start by September.
