Farc rebels to help Colombian army in removing landmines
March 8 , 2015
The Colombian government and Farc rebels will work together to clear landmines in the country’s rural areas.
This decision was made public in Cuba, where the two sides have been involved in peace talks.
Landmines have injured or killed over 11,000 people in Colombia in the past 15 years.
A senior Colombian official described the agreement as a “giant step toward making peace”. President Juan Manuel Santos said the proposal would bring “us closer to the shared objective of reaching peace".
