December 1 , 2014
Colombia’s Farc rebels have released a top general and two other hostages who were kidnapped on November 16, according to media reports.
Gen Ruben Dario Alzate along with the other hostages were handed over to a group headed by the Red Cross. After their release, they were initially taken to an army base near Medellin city, reports said.
Juan Manuel Santos, the president of Colombia said the release was helpful in creating a “favorable atmosphere for the continuation of the talks" with the rebels.
