Ex-Pope: I was never forced out
February 27 , 2014
Former Pope Benedict spoke out in regards to the rumors about him being forced out about one year ago.
He said the speculations are "simply absurd" and the resignation was his choice. "There is absolutely no doubt regarding the validity of my resignation from the Petrine ministry."
The Italian media pointed at doubts regarding Benedict's resignation earlier this month and the former pope's letter comes after the same article.
"I continue to wear the white cassock and kept the name Benedict for purely practical reasons," he said, addressing the allegations that he still considered himself pope. "At the moment of my resignation there were no other clothes available. In any case, I wear the white cassock in a visibly different way to how the Pope wears it."
