Evo Morales favourite to win in Bolivian elections

  • Bolivians are voting Sunday to choose their president, with most opinion polls predicting a third straight win for the populist president Evo Morales, a farmer-turned-politician.

Morales, 54, has successfully used the country’s natural gas resources to generate funds and cut poverty in a booming economy with increasing state control, providing much needed stability to a country plagued by political instability.

His rivals include businessman Samuel Doria Medina and former president Jorque Quiroga. If he wins, as expected, Morales will be on his way to becoming Bolivia’s longest serving president.
