Evacuations underway as Texas expects to take the brunt of Hurricane Harvey

  • Harvey is the first major hurricane to slam the United States in over a decade and is labelled “life threatening” by the forecasters. Harvey strengthened quickly from being a tropical depression to Category 1 hurricane and then to Category 3 hurricane. As hurricane Harvey turns in the Gulf of Mexico, evacuations are underway. “Any rain that does fall and especially heavy shower, is going to cause possible flooding issues for people, possible issues for travelling,”said Rupert Lacy, Harrison County EMA Director. Mandatory evacuation of tens of thousands of residents from the the low lying areas were ordered by all the seven counties on the coast. The residents from Texas to Mississippi are preparing for the worst, as Hurricane Harvey moves in.
