European warships rescue thousands near Libyan coast
June 7 , 2015
Warships from Europe have helped rescue over 2,000 migrants near the Libyan coast.
Italian, German and Irish ships along with coast guard vessels took part in the rescue operations, reports say. British navy’s HMS Bulwark, which has already helped save around 1,800 people, will also join the latest rescue efforts.
The number of migrants, mostly from Africa, taking the risky Mediterranean route to Europe in overcrowded boats has risen by 10% this year.
