March 3 , 2018
With US President Donald Trump pressing on for steeply increasing global duties on metal, European Union trade chief Jean-Claude Juncker has reportedly threatened to slap 25 percent tariffs on around $3.5 Billion imports (including agricultural products, steel, and others) from the United States. WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo has said that “A trade war is in no one's interests”. However, President Trump has tweeted that “trade wars are good”. The US President’s announcement for imposing a steep tariff on steel and aluminum next week has drawn international condemnation. French economy minister Bruno Le Maire said that in an imminent US-EU trade war everyone will lose.
