EU member states' 'secret deals' with Eritrean regime triggers row
June 14 , 2015
Human rights groups and UN officials have raised concerns over what they perceive to be secret agreements between the Eritrean regime and individual EU member states, media reports say.
According to reports, such deals may involve easing of sanctions against the African country in return for more stringent border controls. After Syrians, Eritreans are the largest group migrating to Europe.
President Isaias Afwerki’s regime has been accused of serious human rights abuses, including torture and rape.
