EU leaders reach deal on greenhouse gas
October 24 , 2014
European leaders have agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030.
However, many aspects of the deal remain unclear.
Targets for the market share for renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency improvement were also set.
President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said the deal “sets the EU on an ambitious but cost-effective climate path”.
Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, described the deal as “very good news” in the battle against climate change.
