EU expands sanctions against Russia
July 23 , 2014
The European Union (EU) has announced further sanctions on Russia in wake of the shooting down of the Malaysia Airlines plane over eastern Ukraine.
Western intelligence agencies and defense analysts suspect pro-Russian rebels to be behind the downing of Flight MH17.
The expanded EU blacklist targets Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and includes a potential arms embargo and financial curbs on Russian businesses.
Meanwhile, speaking on the issue of putting more pressure on the rebels to cooperate in the crash investigations and move towards ending hostilities, Putin said: “We will…do everything that is in our power.”
