EU and UK Agree on Just Half of the Issues on First Round of Brexit Talks
July 22 , 2017
A detailed joint working paper revealed that Brexit teams of European Union and United Kingdom have been able to reach agreement in just 22 issues out of the 44 issues under negotiation regarding future rights of Britons in European countries and EU citizens in the UK. The document shows that out of the 22 disagreements, fundamental disagreements are there in 14 issues and need for further clarification in 8 issues. The two sides are more in agreement on short-term contractors and not on “posted workers”. Most contentious issue is UK’s insistence on non-involvement of European court of justice in disputes arising after Brexit.
