Essebsi claims victory in Tunisia's first free Presidential election

  • Beji Caid Essebsi has claimed victory in Tunisia's first free presidential election. Although the official results are yet to be announced, the exit polls have suggested that the presidential candidate won 55.5% of the vote. Several other exit polls have reflected similar results. However, the the supporters of President Moncef Marzouki, Essebsi's rival group, were not willing to accept defeat until the official results are out. Although the critics are of the opinion that Essebsi's victory will mark the return of a 'discredited' government, but the man himself has expressed confidence in bringing stability in the country.
