Erdogan wins presidential polls in Turkey

  • Recep Erdogan,Turkey’s prime minister, is the winner in the first direct presidential election in the country.

    Erdogan reportedly got 51.95% of the vote after 99% ballots were counted. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, in second place, got 38.34% of the vote.

    Reaching out to his rivals in his first victory speech, Erdogan said: “I will not be the president of only those who voted for me; I will be the president of 77 million.”
