  • Erdogan wants to bring Armed Forces and Intelligence under Presidential Control

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is trying to firm his clout on the country after the failed coup attempt by trying to bring the armed forces as well as national intelligence agency under direct control of the presidency. As part of the ongoing major overhaul of the Turkish military, around 1,700 military personnel have been dishonorably discharged for having alleged role in the July 15-16 attempted coup. Erdogan’s spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said after a 5-hour long meeting of Turkey's Supreme Military Council  that the President will discuss with opposition parties for bringing General Staff and the MIT under presidency’s control.
