Erdogan says Turkey-US Talks on Halkbank Fine Issue Underway

  • Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has told media during a press conference in Istanbul that he had discussed with his US counterpart Donald Trump about Turkey’s state-owned Halkbank and the impending US fines. The United States is reportedly considering slapping fines on Halkbank after an executive of the Turkish bank helped Iran get around the US sanctions. Erdogan told media that during the call, Trump assured him of instructing the relevant ministers immediately and the US officials called Treasury and Finance Minister of Turkey the following day. Erdogan also said that the talks have started between the NATO allies on the concerned issue. He went on to say that “It is very important that this process has begun”.
