  • Erdogan clamps down on Rebels, Huge Turkish Crowd Rally for Democracy

    President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after thwarting the attempted coup by a section of military, has clamped down on rebels as around 2,800 rebel soldiers have been arrested and over 2,700 judges dismissed for allegedly having links with the leaders who attempted the putsch. Meanwhile, arrest warrants against 140 Supreme Court members have been issued by Erdogan administration. Commander of the Third Army, General Erdal Ozturk, has been detained. The Turkish President also asked US President Barack Obama to handover his friend-turned-foe and allegedly the mastermind of recent failed Turkish coup, Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen. After Turkish authorities called upon citizens to defend democracy, huge crowds rallied in Istanbul and other cities.
