End protests now, says Hong Kong's chief executive

  • Dismissing calls to step down from his post, Leung Chun-ying, the chief executive of Hong Kong, has called upon leaders of the pro-democracy protests to withdraw demonstrators from the city center.

He said that the leaders of Occupy Central had said they would stop the movement if it went out of control and they should now “fulfill the promise they made to society.”

But a co-founder of Occupy Central, Chan Kin-man, said if Leung Chun-ying agreed to quit, the movement “will be at least temporarily stopped.”
