Eight policemen killed in Cairo; IS role suspected

  • In what seems to be a jihadist attack eight plainclothed Egyptian policemen were killed by unknown assailants. The policemen were in a minivan when a pickup truck carrying assailants stopped in front of them and started shooting. The responsibility for the attack has not been claimed by any terrorist group as of now but mostly this type of hit-and-run attacks are carried out by militants of Islamic State in the Senai peninsula area. The dead included a lieutenant and seven others who were lower in rank. They were ambushed while patrolling the area south of the capital in Helwan district of Cairo.
