Eight Killed in Cuban Military Plane Crash

  • As per reports, a Cuban Antonov AN-26 military transport plane carrying military personnel crashed into the Loma de la Pimienta mountain, around 50 miles west of Havana, killing all eight persons on board, including the crew.

A spokesperson of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces confirmed a commission would be looking into the cause of the air crash.

Earlier in 2010, Cuba lost an Aero Caribbean ATR-72-212 plane in a crash that killed all 68 on board. Most aircraft in Cuba belong to the Soviet-era and after the break-up of the Soviet Union, the country has been struggling to maintain its ageing fleet.
