Egyptian president approves stringent new counter-terrorism laws

  • In a bid to combat growing Islamist insurgency, President of Egypt, Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, has approved tough new counter-terrorism laws. According to media reports, the laws, which impose death penalty on anyone found guilty of starting or leading a terrorist organization, also set up special courts and provide protection to military and police officials who have used force from legal consequences.
