Egypt Plans Massive Offensive Against Terrorist Elements Before Presidential Election

  • Military spokesperson of Egypt has said that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered military action against militants in north Sinai. The order comes within 3 months of the deadliest mosque attack in Egypt that killed around 300 people. Reports say the operation to get rid of terrorist elements will be carried out in Sinai, western desert, and certain parts of the Nile delta. The massive offensive (involving army, air force, navy, police and border patrol) against militants is planned to be carried out just weeks before President Sisi seeks a second term in the Presidential election.
