Edward Snowden wins human rights award

  • Edward Snowden received Sweden’s prestigious Right Livelihood award for revealing the extent of state surveillance carried out by agencies in the US and elsewhere, according to media reports.

The former NSA contractor addressed Sweden’s parliament through a video link from his exile in Moscow.

His family and backers said that no one took the award on his behalf, hoping that some day the US whistleblower might be free to go to Sweden himself and receive it.
