  • Easter Sunday turned bloody in Sri Lanka as 8 blasts rocked the island nation. While 6 attacks took place in quick succession, 2 more blasts took place hours later across Colombo. The attacks were carried out in churches and luxury hotels at a time when the Easter Sunday masses were going on in churches. Till now 215 are reportedly killed (including foreigners) and more than 450 people injured during the blasts (that includes suicide bombers in at least 2 of the 8 attacks). Reports say 35 foreigners from China, Turkey, India, Netherlands, and other nations were killed during the series of blasts. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned the dastardly attacks and called it cowardly. Indefinite curfew has been declared in Sri Lanka. Country’s defense minister said that 8 people have till now been arrested for having connection with the attacks. Interestingly, on April 11, Sri Lankan Police Chief Pujuth Jayasundara had sent out intelligence warning to top officers regarding the planned suicide attacks by a terror group National Thowheeth Jama'ath on “targeting prominent churches as well as the Indian high commission in Colombo”.
