Jakarta, Sep 24 (IANS) 6.6 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia, 39 injured
At least 39 people were injured when a 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit in waters off Indonesia's easternmost province early Friday. The earthquake, which damaged several homes and created panic among people, was located around 17 miles north of Sorong, which is a town in the West Papua province of Indonesia. The U.S. Geological Survey said on its website that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 miles. Panic stricken people could be seen fleeing from their homes, hotels, and even a hospital. Hundreds of people have been evacuated to temporary shelters.
Sep 17, 2015 - 6.3 magnitude earthquake hits eastern Indonesia
Eastern Indonesia was struck by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake; however, there have been no reports of casualties or damages to property so far. No tsunami warning has been issued. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 52 km under the Molucca Sea. It occurred between the islands of Sulawesi and Halmahera.
