DR Congo launches attack against Rwandan rebels

  • The Democratic Republic of  Congo has started an operation in the country’s east against Hutu rebels.

Tuesday’s assault was carried out in South Kivu province, according to the military sources.

Officials had earlier warned that Rwandan rebels would be targeted after they missed a deadline to disarm. The FDLR rebel militants were involved in the Rwandan genocide of 1994.

The UN is not supporting the operation as two DR Congo generals involved are accused of rights abuses.
