Demonstrators Set on Fire Paraguay's Congress
April 1 , 2017
Paraguay's congress building has been set on fire by angry demonstrators following violent protests against a bill allowing the president to seek re-election. Media reports quoted the main opposition party as saying that an activists had been shot dead. A president's term is limited to a single five-year terms, according to the country's 1992 constitution; however, Horacio Cartes, who is the sitting president of Paraguay, is trying to do away with the restriction so that he can run for re-election.
