Debt extension: Greek protesters clash with police ahead of key German vote
February 27 , 2015
Violence broke out in Athens ahead of a vote by Germany’s parliament on extending financial aid to Greece.
Clashes between police and demonstrators in the capital followed the first anti-government protest since the new left-wing government came to power in Greece.
The far-left activists threw stones and petrol bombs at the police, and cars were set ablaze.
Prime minister Alexis Tsipras has agreed a bailout deal to give Greece a four-month extension. But the agreement has triggered dissent in sections of Tsipras’ own Syriza party.
