Death Toll in the US from COVID-19 to Cross Italy Soon

  • Johns Hopkins University’s COVID-19 tracker shows that in the last 24-hours, 2,108 people have died from the deadly coronavirus in the US. With more than half a million confirmed infections in the US (highest in the world), there are high chances that the death toll in the country would surpass that of Italy (the country having the highest number of COVID-19 deaths till now). While the US has at least 18,693 deaths and 500,399 confirmed infection cases, Italy has 18,849 deaths and 102,000 confirmed infection cases. The coordinator for the White House coronavirus task force, Dr. Deborah Birx, has said that the outbreak is stabilizing and it is encouraging that it hasn’t reached the peak yet. The US President Donald Trump has said that he expects the death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in the US will be lesser than his initial prediction of 100,000.
