October 17 , 2014
The death toll due to snowstorms and extreme weather at a popular Himalayan trekking route in Nepal has gone up to 28, media reports say.
More than 200 people were rescued, but with many still missing, authorities fear that the toll could rise.
The casualties are from several nationalities, including trekkers from Nepal, India, Canada, Poland, and Israel. A majority of the victims were hiking on the well-known Annapurna Circuit when a blizzard hit an area on the route.
