Death toll in Japanese volcano eruption rises

  • The death toll in Saturday’s volcanic eruption at Japan’s Mount Ontake reached 36 after the discovery of five more bodies beside the peak, according to media reports.

Rescuers had to later call off their search due to the toxicity in the air. The search and rescue efforts are being carried out by firefighters, army, and the police.

At least 60 people were injured in the disaster. They included those hit by rocks and who had inhaled toxic gases.
