October 14 , 2014
The death toll due to Cyclone Hudhud has risen to 24 in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, with efforts escalating to provide relief to more than 400,000 affected people.
The storm destroyed thousands of homes, damaged crops, uprooted trees, and plunged many areas into darkness. The airport in the busy port city of Visakhapatnam was badly hit, a section of its roof blown away. Trains remain suspended in the area and there have been reports of a spike in the prices of basic commodities in the city.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the affected areas and carried out an aerial survey of the damage.
