Dam Collapse Displaces Thousands in Southern Laos

  • After a dam collapsed in southern Laos, thousands of people have been displaced and hundreds have gone missing. The collapse of the dam has caused flash flooding in as many as six villages. The Xepian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam, according to media sources, collapsed on Monday night at 8 p.m. triggering the release of 5 billion cubic meters water. The water has washed away a large number of houses, leaving more than 6,000 people homeless. A public appeal for emergency aid for food, clothing, medicine, and water has been made by the authorities for the flood victims.
