Cyclone Nilam hits Indian coast

India’s southeastern coast has been hit by Cyclone Nilam with wind speeds reaching up to 60mph.
Around 4,000 people were evacuated to escape the storm on Wednesday. No casualties have yet been reported.
Another 4,000 people in displacement camps in Sri Lanka have also been affected by flooding.
As it heads west, Cyclone Nilam is expected to reach the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and the town of Pondicherry.
Schools, colleges and cargo operations in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state, have been closed.
Continual rainfall, strong winds and rising tides are expected to persist over the course of the day.
