Cyclone Mahasen hits Bangladesh
May 16 , 2013
Nearly one million people have been forced to evacuate their homes as Cyclone Mahasen hits the coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Authorities on Wednesday increased the danger level to 7 on 10 for low-lying regions around Chittagong and the coastal district of Cox's Bazar.
At least two people have been killed.
Mass evacuations have also taken place in Myanmar, where thousands of Rohingya Muslims living in camps in the low-lying areas of Rakhine state are at risk.
However, many are unwilling to leave the camps where they have been staying after being displaced by ethnic violence last year.
According to the United Nations, 8.2 million people could be at risk from Mahasen in Bangladesh, Myanmar and parts of northeast India.
