Cuban Lawmakers Unanimously Approve the Revised Draft of New Constitution

A revised draft of the new constitution has been approved unanimously by the Cuban lawmakers on Saturday. The new draft consists 229 articles that vouch to open up socio-economic areas despite maintaining dominance of the state on the Cuban economy, maintain Communist Party rule as the guiding force, legitimize private businesses, and many more. Reports say the new constitutional draft has been reached after incorporating multiple proposed changes suggested by the Cuban citizen over a period of 3-months of nationwide public consultation. The new draft is scheduled to go to a referendum on February 24, 2019. The latest draft has included “advancing towards communism” as one of the main goals, it has removed the definition of marriage altogether.
