Croatian voters go to polls to elect president

  • Croatia’s voters are heading to the polls to choose their next president.

The second round run-off is a contest between incumbent president Ivo Josipovic and Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.

In the closely fought first round, Josipovic, 57, won 38.5% of the vote, a little above 46-year-old former foreign minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic’s 37%.

Though the president plays a predominantly ceremonial role, the poll is being seen as an important test for the country’s key political parties.
