'Critical' equipment destroyed in Syria

  • All mixing facilities and chemical weapons production declared by Syria were destroyed and made inoperable, a day prior to the deadline set by UN.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has not been able to get to two sites, which are located in dangerous places but the equipment has successfully been moved to other locations.

OPCW said Syria has "completed the functional destruction of critical equipment for all of its declared chemical weapons production facilities and mixing/filling plants, rendering them inoperable." It also mentioned that "no further inspection activities are currently planned."

The next step would be for Syria and OPCW to decide on a plan regarding the destruction of these weapons by Nov. 15. They should all be destroyed by the middle of next year.
